Kwara CJ Seeks More Judges as Backlog Grows

Kwara State Chief Judge Justice Abiodun Adebara has called for an expansion of the state High Court Bench to address growing pressure on existing judges and accumulated cases.

He requested activities marking the commencement of the 2026/2027 legal year.

The occasion also placed the rapidly growing use of artificial intelligence in legal work under scrutiny.

Stakeholders warned that AI tools can generate apparently convincing but entirely fictitious case authorities, statutory provisions, and quotations if lawyers fail to independently verify their research.

The problem has potentially serious professional consequences because legal practitioners remain responsible for authorities and arguments submitted under their names, regardless of whether an AI platform produced the original material.

The combination of rising caseloads and the spread of unreliable AI-generated legal research presents two very different but increasingly urgent pressures on Nigerian courts: capacity and technological integrity.
