I Have Done Maths For 2027 Elections, Tinubu Will Emerge Third, Says El-Rufai

Abuja — Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has predicted that the 2027 presidential election will likely go into a runoff, with President Bola Tinubu failing to qualify for the second round.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, El-Rufai, now of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), argued that Tinubu has “no pathway to win,” insisting that, at best, the president would place third.

“I was one of Bola Tinubu’s biggest campaigners, but I couldn’t deliver Kaduna to him,” El-Rufai said. “The worst-case scenario in 2027 is that no winner will emerge in the first round. Tinubu will not be on the ballot for the runoff.”

He dismissed assumptions that state power, money, and control of institutions could guarantee Tinubu victory, drawing parallels to former President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 loss despite holding similar advantages.

El-Rufai, once a close ally of Tinubu, has become a fierce critic of the administration, positioning himself and the ADC as part of the growing opposition ahead of 2027.
