An Avalanche of Goodwill: Legal Luminaries Celebrate Nwabueze Obasi-Obi on His Birthday
From the courtroom to a room filled with colleagues, laughter and goodwill, September 3 became more than a birthday for Nwabueze Obasi-Obi, Esq. It was a striking testament to the friendships, professional respect and goodwill he has built across the Bar.
It was an outpouring of warmth, solidarity and camaraderie on September 3 as learned silks, Bar leaders, professional colleagues, friends and loved ones converged physically and virtually to celebrate Nwabueze Obasi-Obi, Esq., Partner at Y. C. Maikyau & Co, on his birthday.
The celebration reverberated across multiple platforms throughout the day, with colleagues and friends flooding WhatsApp statuses, social media feeds and phone lines with prayers and goodwill messages.
The Nigerian Bar Association Abuja Branch (Unity Bar) also joined the celebration. In an official birthday message on behalf of the Branch, its Chairman, Yakubu Philemon, SAN, celebrated Obasi-Obi as an esteemed colleague and member, praying for abundant blessings, good health and greater professional accomplishments.
Fondly dubbed the βMinister/OC Enjoyment of the NBA,β Obasi-Obi is admired among friends for an unusual combination: a lively personality and a relentless work ethic.
That combination was perhaps best illustrated on his birthday. Before joining colleagues waiting to celebrate him at the office, the active litigator had first appeared before the Court of Appeal earlier in the day.
By the time he arrived, his office had become an energetic reception point, as Bar leaders and colleagues carved time out of demanding professional schedules to honour him.
Among the dignitaries and guests were Abdul Mohammed, SAN, Chairman of the NBA Annual General Conference Planning Committee (AGCPC 2026); Nuhu J. Egya, 2nd Vice President of the Nigerian Bar Association; Barbara Omosun, Secretary of the AGCPC 2026; Huwaila Ibrahim, Chairperson of the NBA National Women Forum; Abdulrauf Tijani Aboki, Chairman of the NBA Young Lawyers Forum Governing Council, 2022β2024; and Emmanuel E. Maga, Chairman of the NBA Keffi 2026 Law Week Planning Committee.
Numerous colleagues, partners, associates, friends and well-wishers from within and outside the legal profession also joined the celebration.
Surrounded by cakes, refreshments and vibrant conversations, colleagues took turns sharing personal accounts of the man behind the advocate.
One particularly memorable tribute came from Abdul Mohammed, SAN, who described the celebrant as a thoroughly good and worthy man.
He recalled Obasi-Obi’s thoughtfulness during the NBA Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, when he went out of his way to ensure that the learned silk’s wife was comfortable throughout her stay. The recollection drew admiration and hearty cheers from those gathered.
Another colleague spoke warmly about the privilege of working under Obasi-Obi’s tutelage, particularly praising his commitment to pro bono legal work, which, according to the colleague, he handles with the same dedication and seriousness as paid briefs.
Expressing his gratitude, Obasi-Obi thanked everyone who called, posted messages, visited and shared in the joy of the occasion. He said the overwhelming goodwill shown by Bar leaders, professional colleagues, friends and loved ones would remain deeply cherished.
He also extended special appreciation to the Head of Chambers, T. R. Agbanyi, and colleagues who set the celebration in motion.
For a man who began his birthday before the Court of Appeal and ended it surrounded by colleagues celebrating not merely his professional accomplishments but his character, September 3 offered its own testimony.
Here is wishing Nwabueze Obasi-Obi, Esq. many more fruitful years of groundbreaking legal victories, flourishing practice, sound health and impactful leadership. Happy Birthday! 🎉🥂
