I extend warm congratulations to the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Lagos State Branch, on the occasion of its 2025 Joint Law Week, anchored on the compelling theme “From Paper to Power: Enforcing Women’s Rights Through Technology & Legal Framework.”

This theme speaks directly to one of the most urgent imperatives of our time: moving beyond eloquent legal provisions to practical, enforceable outcomes for women and girls. In an era defined by digital transformation, technology has become a powerful equaliser—capable of amplifying access to justice, strengthening accountability, and breaking long-standing barriers that have limited the full realisation of women’s rights.

The challenge before the legal profession is no longer the absence of laws, but the effectiveness of their enforcement. By centring this Law Week on the intersection of technology and legal frameworks, FIDA Lagos is rightly drawing attention to innovative tools that can convert statutory guarantees into lived realities, whether through digital reporting mechanisms, data-driven advocacy, virtual legal aid platforms, or smarter regulatory enforcement.

This conversation is both timely and necessary. As custodians of the law, practitioners must continuously adapt, ensuring that emerging technologies are responsibly harnessed to protect rights, close justice gaps, and deliver tangible impact, particularly for women whose voices have historically been marginalised.

I commend FIDA Lagos State for its foresight, leadership, and sustained commitment to advancing women’s rights through strategic advocacy and forward-thinking engagement. It is my hope that the resolutions from this Law Week will further inspire action, collaboration, and innovation across the legal ecosystem.

I wish FIDA Lagos a highly successful and impactful Law Week.
