The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Nigeria, Rivers State Branch, successfully held its Triennial General Meeting on Monday, 9th December 2024. This event marked the conclusion of the tenure of the Mrs. Adata Bio-Briggs-led Executive Committee, which began in December 2021.
Highlights of the Adata Bio-Briggs Administration
The past three years under the leadership of Mrs. Adata Bio-Briggs have been transformative and impactful for FIDA Rivers. The administration recorded several landmark achievements, particularly in advocacy and awareness campaigns focused on:
- Women’s Rights and the Girl Child
- The Child Rights Law
- The Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law

FIDA: Election of New Executive Committee (2024–2027)
A key highlight of the meeting was the election and inauguration of the new Executive Committee, which will steer the branch from December 2024 to December 2027.
Newly Elected Executives:
- Chairperson: Tamunoibuemi Life-George
- Secretary: Okorite Kelvin Yobo (elected with 25 votes against Ibiwari Harry’s 15 votes)
- Treasurer: Concellia O. Enwereuzoh
- Financial Secretary: Oluchi Ofoegbu
- Publicity Secretary: Rachel Princewill
- Assistant Publicity Secretary: Sotonye Kelechi-Nwuzi
- Welfare Secretary: Tosan Jaja
The positions of Vice Chairperson and Assistant Secretary remain vacant. A by-election will be conducted by the newly constituted Executive Committee in due course.
Acceptance Speech and Future Goals
In her acceptance speech, the new Chairperson, Tamunoibuemi Life-George, expressed gratitude to the members for their trust and pledged to build on the achievements of the outgoing administration. She vowed to elevate the branch to greater heights and enhance its impact on society.
Celebrations and Closing Activities
The meeting concluded with a closing prayer and the rendition of the FIDA anthem. In a joyful moment, the December celebrants who hosted the meeting were honored with a cake-cutting ceremony, adding a festive touch to the day.
