Police authorities in Sokoto State say security operatives have recovered two rocket launchers after repelling an attack by suspected bandits on Tsabre village in Isa Local Government Area.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 1 a.m. when a large number of armed men invaded the community and opened fire, creating panic among residents.
According to Premium Times, Sokoto State Police Command spokesperson Ahmad Rufa’i said the Divisional Police Officer in Isa mobilised tactical teams following a distress call from the community.
Personnel of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Violent Crime Response Unit were among those deployed.
Police said the security operatives engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to abandon the community and retreat into a nearby forest.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of two rocket launchers and two empty AK-47 magazines.
Other items reportedly recovered included a Tecno keypad phone without a battery, a torchlight, an army jungle hat, a sweater cap, five pairs of sandals and a rain jacket.
Police did not announce any arrest and did not disclose whether any of the attackers were killed or injured during the confrontation.
The command also did not provide further technical information about the recovered rocket launchers, including their precise type or operational condition.
Sokoto State Commissioner of Police Hayatu Shaffa commended the officers involved in the operation and urged residents to provide timely information on suspicious activities.
Residents were also encouraged to alert security agencies if persons suspected of sustaining gunshot wounds were seen seeking medical attention.
The recovery adds to growing concern over the sophistication of weapons available to armed groups operating across parts of North-West Nigeria.
