The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has refuted circulating reports claiming there was an assassination attempt on Lt. A.M. Yerima, a Nigerian Navy officer who recently engaged in a high-profile confrontation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
In an official statement issued on Sunday, the Police, through their spokesperson Josephine Adeh, described the claims as “false and unverified.” She added that no such incident has been reported or documented within the territory.
The statement urged the public to ignore the viral posts, warning that spreading unverified information could incite unnecessary fear.
The denial comes in the wake of earlier reports, notably by Vanguard, that Lt. Yerima was trailed by unidentified men in black, traveling in two unmarked Hilux vans from the NIPCO Filling Station on Line Expressway to Gado Nasco Way. According to those sources, the officer performed a “strategic maneuver” that enabled him to evade the suspected assailants.

Sources claim the matter is under investigation, though details remain largely undisclosed to protect the integrity of the probe.
The reported assassination scare follows a public standoff between Lt. Yerima and Minister Wike over a disputed land parcel in the Gaduwa District of Abuja. The clash, which played out in a widely circulated video, prompted national reactions and pushed both military veterans and public-interest groups to call for calm and a full inquiry.
