The 67th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) opened in Enugu with a powerful keynote address by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whose words continue to resonate even after the close of the conference.
Speaking before thousands of delegates, Governor Mbah underscored the centrality of justice to national progress and laid out a bold vision for judicial reform in Enugu State. His address went beyond ceremonial pleasantries, providing a practical roadmap to strengthen the rule of law and enhance access to justice.
He pledged full judicial autonomy, committing to financial independence for the judiciary as a safeguard for impartial justice. He also announced plans to digitize court processes, introducing real-time transcription, e-filing, and other technologies aimed at improving efficiency and transparency.
In furtherance of dispute resolution, the Governor highlighted the expansion of multi-door courthouses and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms to decongest courts and make justice delivery more accessible. He also committed to law codification and modernization, promising to repeal obsolete laws and ensure legal frameworks reflect contemporary realities.

Governor Mbah’s reformist vision was complemented by his broader investment drive in Enugu, which positioned the state as a model host for the NBA’s flagship event. Delegates lauded the seamless organization, the welcoming atmosphere, and the state’s infrastructural upgrades that elevated the conference experience.
Although the 67th AGC has concluded, Governor Mbah’s opening address remains a lasting imprint — a reminder that law and governance can intersect meaningfully to drive transformation. His blueprint is widely regarded as a call to action for leaders and the Bar alike to “stand out and stand tall” in service of justice and society.
