The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.
The Commission listed Maina on its wanted-persons portal and asked anyone with information concerning his whereabouts to contact the EFCC, police or other security agencies.
The latest notice does not, on its face, provide a detailed account of the property allegedly received or specify all the circumstances underlying the new declaration.
Maina has a lengthy history of litigation involving the EFCC.
In November 2021, the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted him on 12 counts involving money laundering, fictitious accounts and fraud. His sentences were ordered to run concurrently, and the Court of Appeal upheld his conviction in May 2023.
He was released from Kuje Custodial Centre earlier in 2026 after serving the applicable prison term.
Separately, Maina is facing another criminal case at the FCT High Court in Asokoro alongside Ann Igwe Olachi. In that proceeding, the EFCC alleges receipt of stolen funds totalling about ₦738.6 million. Both defendants were arraigned in 2019.
The EFCC’s latest declaration should not itself be treated as proof of any new offence. Any fresh allegation would still have to be established through evidence and appropriate judicial proceedings.
