The Christian Law Students Fellowship of Nigeria (CLASFON), Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK) Chapter, celebrated its 20th anniversary in remarkable fashion with a Grand Annual Dinner on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Sawalino Hotels, Keffi. The highlight of the evening was the honour bestowed upon Mr. Matthew Burkaa, SAN, FCIArb (UK) — a distinguished advocate, philanthropist, and man of faith whose life and career embody service, excellence, and mentorship.
The dinner was a vibrant blend of elegance, legal tradition, and spiritual reverence. Senior Advocates, Bar leaders, government officials, academics, and law students filled the hall in admiration of Mr. Burkaa’s towering contributions to the legal profession and society. His grand entrance, marked by a standing ovation, underscored the depth of respect he commands across professional and civic circles.
Dignitaries present included Senior Advocates of Nigeria such as M.I. Dikko SAN, Ibrahim Magaji Mato SAN, and Yakubu Philemon SAN, alongside key political figures like Mr. Laraban Shuaibu Magaji (Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State) and Mr. David Moyi (Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Nasarawa State).
The event also drew prominent NBA figures, including Fidelis Bemsen Mnyim (Former Attorney General of Benue State), Dennis Alaku Esq. (Chairman, NBA Lafia Branch), Emmanuel Tayo Ogunjide (Chairman, NBA Keffi Branch), and Nuhu J. Egya (Past Chairman, NBA Keffi & Chair, NBA Citizens Liberties Committee), among others.

Delivering his keynote, Mr. Burkaa anchored his message on Proverbs 22:29, urging students to embrace diligence, discipline, and faith as keys to a fulfilling legal journey. He stressed that his greatest honour lies not in landmark victories in the courtroom but in shaping the character and vision of aspiring lawyers. With humility, he credited divine providence for his successes while charging young lawyers to pursue excellence with purpose.
The evening also featured the unveiling of The Lex, CLASFON NSUK’s official magazine, which showcases scholarly articles, poetry, and reflections. Mr. Burkaa led the launch alongside other dignitaries, with generous donations further signaling a deep commitment to mentorship and the next generation.
In a moving climax, CLASFON presented a prestigious award to Mr. Burkaa in recognition of his immense contributions to legal jurisprudence, mentorship, and philanthropy. The thunderous applause and heartfelt tributes from students and colleagues alike reflected the depth of his influence and the admiration he enjoys.
Beyond the celebration, the event underscored CLASFON NSUK’s mission of justice, mentorship, and spiritual growth, with reflections on its two decades of legal aid, community outreach, and faith-driven leadership. Gospel music, alumni messages, and testimonies enriched the evening, leaving guests inspired and reenergized.
The Grand Dinner was not just a night of honour but a defining moment of inspiration — a reminder that true legacy lies not only in professional accolades but in the lives uplifted through faith, service, and mentorship. For CLASFON NSUK and all present, the evening was a beacon of purpose, marking both a milestone and a springboard for future impact.
