The Sokoto Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has strongly condemned the recent bombing of the Silame Community in Sokoto State by the Nigerian Air Force. The tragic incident resulted in the loss of 10 lives, injuries to many, and significant destruction of property.

In a statement issued by the Branch, it expressed profound sadness and dismay over the negligence that led to this tragedy. The Nigerian Air Force has yet to provide a justified explanation for targeting the affected innocent communities.
Despite claims of targeting the Lakurawa terror group, no evidence or credible justification has been provided regarding the number of terrorists killed or wounded. Instead, the airstrike caused the deaths and injuries of civilians and led to the loss of livestock and other valuables.
The NBA Sokoto Branch emphasized that military operations must be executed with proper intelligence, professionalism, and reconnaissance to avoid harming innocent civilians.
The Branch also commended the prompt response of the Sokoto State Government, led by His Excellency Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, and called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to ensure justice for the victims and their families.
The NBA Sokoto Branch demands:
- A formal apology from the Nigerian Air Force.
- Adequate compensation for the victims and their families, aligned with Islamic dictates applicable in the State.
- A thorough investigation into the incident to prevent future occurrences.
The Branch emphasized that addressing these demands would prevent unnecessary litigation and provide relief to the affected families.
