The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Oyewole Mayowa Solomon, has died after reportedly collapsing during a party reconciliation meeting.

According to Daily Trust, Solomon collapsed on Friday, August 21, 2026, while participating in the meeting held in Iyara, the headquarters of Ijumu Local Government Area.

Those present reportedly administered first aid before rushing him to a hospital in Kabba, where he was confirmed dead.

The medical cause of his sudden collapse had not been officially disclosed as of the time the report was filed.

Meeting Convened to Reconcile APC Factions

The reconciliation meeting was convened by a former Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Funsho Olumoko, to resolve internal disagreements and restore unity among APC stakeholders.

Daily Trust reported that the meeting was expected to bring together political leaders, local government and ward executives, women and youth leaders, as well as government appointees representing the 15 wards in Ijumu.

The follow-up meeting became necessary after an earlier session reportedly ended without resolving disagreements over the leadership of the party in the local government.

Solomon and some party stakeholders and government officials were said to have walked out of the previous gathering following the disagreement.

His sudden collapse reportedly caused confusion among those attending Friday’s meeting and brought the reconciliation proceedings to an abrupt end.

Lawmakers Mourn Solomon

The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Sunday Karimi, and the member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Salman Idris, expressed sadness over Solomon’s death.

The lawmakers described him as a loyal and committed grassroots politician whose contributions to the development of the APC in Ijumu and Kogi West would be greatly missed.

Karimi described the deceased as a bridge builder and a man of peace who remained dedicated to the ideals of the ruling party.

“His commitment, dedication and loyalty to the party were exemplary. His death is a painful loss not only to his immediate family and Ijumu LGA, but to the entire APC family in Kogi State,” Karimi said.

Other party leaders, including APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary Durosinmi Meseko, also mourned Solomon, describing him as a dependable party leader and committed advocate of unity.

As of the time of filing the original report, the Kogi State Police Command had not publicly responded to inquiries concerning the incident.
