Acknowledging Progress Amidst Criticism: The Impact of the Remuneration Order Under Afam Osigwe SAN’s Administration by Lawrence Shegun Ayewa.
I have carefully observed the various complaints and criticisms that have trailed the administration of Afam Osigwe, SAN. In every leadership journey, there will always be differing opinions, expectations, and assessments. While some concerns may be valid and deserving of attention, it is also important to objectively acknowledge notable achievements where they exist.
One outstanding success of this administration that cannot be ignored is the introduction and implementation of the Remuneration Order. This landmark development has significantly strengthened the professional standing of legal practitioners by setting clearer standards for fees and discouraging the culture of underpayment. As a direct consequence, the welfare of lawyers has improved, dignity in practice has been reinforced, and young practitioners now have a stronger framework to demand fair compensation for their services.
This achievement represents a bold and commendable step toward restoring value, structure, and respect within the profession. For this, credit must be duly given.

Kudos to Afam Osigwe SAN, to Emeka Obegolu, and to myself, Lawrence Shegun Ayewa — the Ambassador Not on a payroll, for standing firmly in support of policies that protect the dignity and economic welfare of lawyers.
Progress must always be acknowledged where it is evident.
