In a swift and coordinated operation, the Anambra State Police Command has successfully rescued six sports journalists who were abducted by suspected criminals in the Isseke community, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The journalists were en route to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to cover the Nigeria vs. Libya African Cup of Nations qualifier when they were ambushed and kidnapped on Wednesday along the Isseke-Orlu Road.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed on Thursday that a joint security task force launched an immediate rescue operation, resulting in the successful recovery of six of the abducted journalists. However, one journalist remains unaccounted for, and efforts are actively underway to locate and rescue the missing individual.
Ikenga assured the public that security forces are committed to securing the remaining victims and bringing the criminals responsible for the abduction to justice. He added, “Joint security forces have rescued six members of the media crew who were abducted while travelling from Lagos to Uyo.”
The abduction has sparked concerns about safety along the Isseke-Orlu Road, and authorities have vowed to intensify security measures in the area to prevent future incidents. Meanwhile, the police have urged the public to remain calm as they continue their search and rescue efforts.
