In Damaturu, Yobe State, a confrontation between Inspector Mohammed Bulama, a police officer attached to the Police Mobile Force (41 Division), and a 39-year-old man, Abdulmalik Dauda, tragically escalated into violence.
On September 29, 2024, a dispute between the two men, reportedly over an unresolved transaction, turned fatal when Bulama allegedly stabbed Dauda in the chest during a physical altercation.
The Yobe State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident in an official statement. The altercation occurred in the Zango Area of Damaturu, during which Bulama also sustained head injuries. Following the attack, Bulama fled to the ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters, where he was arrested and detained.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, condemned the act and expressed his condolences to Dauda’s family. He assured the public that a comprehensive investigation by the state’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was underway, with Bulama remaining in custody pending internal disciplinary action and prosecution.
Ahmed further reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct and vowed that justice would be served.
The case has generated significant public interest, with calls for a transparent investigation to ensure accountability for the officer involved. Updates on the investigation are expected in the coming weeks as the Yobe State Police work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
