Gunmen Kill Councillorship Candidate

Gunmen have killed Raymond Timothy, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) councillorship candidate for Pari Ward in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, along with his brother, James Timothy. The tragic incident occurred Sunday evening as they returned from a political campaign in Kizachi Village, Pari Ward.

The PDP candidate, who had three children and was expecting a fourth child with his pregnant wife, was reportedly targeted along with his brother while riding home on a motorcycle.

Barnabas Chawai, a prominent PDP member in the local government, confirmed the killings and suggested they might have been politically motivated.

He urged security agencies to take swift action to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and justice is served. “Drastic measures must be implemented to prevent further incidents as the October 19 local government election approaches,” Chawai stated.

John Wanneh, Secretary to the Village Head of Kizachi, also commented on the tragedy, stating, “It was less than 10 to 15 minutes after we parted that we heard gunshots near some guinea corn farms.”

Wanneh added that the poor condition of the roads and an impassable river had long hindered security operatives’ access to the village and appealed for improvements.

The case has sparked calls for increased security in the lead-up to the local elections in Kaduna State.
