Today at the ongoing International Bar Association (IBA) 2026 Annual Conference at the Bella Center, Copenhagen, Denmark, Senator Dino Melaye, Esq., distinguished himself not only as a representative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but as a voice for the African continent and the global Black community.
Senator Melaye respectfully drew the attention of the conference to an observed imbalance in panel composition, where moderators were predominantly of non-African origin. He noted that such composition, while perhaps inadvertent, underscores the need for greater inclusivity and diversity at global legal fora. He emphasized that meaningful global dialogue must include African perspectives, particularly on matters concerning economic services and global economic impact, where Africa must no longer remain on the periphery.
In a highly engaging intervention, Senator Melaye enlightened delegates on the imperative of ending the alienation of Africa from critical global economic decisions and ensuring that the continent has a seat at the table where policies affecting its people and resources are shaped.
Senator Melaye further identified key structural challenges under the theme “The Trigger: Several Operational, Economic and Geopolitical Challenges,” and respectfully urged the conference to consider urgent, collaborative solutions to:
1. Geographical Fragmentation and Global Trade Architecture;
2. Disparities Between Tax Revenue and Tax Profit, including the rationale for levying conventional taxes on net profit; and
3. The Growing Burden of Corporate Compliance and the Emerging Legal Gaps occasioned by Artificial Intelligence and Automation.
Through his intervention today, Senator Dino Melaye demonstrated exceptional intellectual leadership and pan-African commitment to safeguarding the continent from systemic economic marginalization and emerging forms of exploitation.
We commend Distinguished Senator Dino Melaye for his exemplary representation and for projecting the hope and aspiration of Africa on the global stage.
