As the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja Branch prepares to elect its next Chairman, Yakubu Philemon, SAN, has presented an inclusive leadership vision anchored on one defining commitment: building a Unity Bar where every lawyer is valued, every voice is heard, every member is empowered, and no one is left behind.

Under the campaign philosophy, United Without Barriers, Philemon envisions a stronger, more responsive and professionally rewarding Branch, one that invests in young lawyers, honours senior colleagues, protects its members, embraces innovation and advances the administration of justice.

According to his manifesto, the strength of the Unity Bar must be measured not only by its prestigious position in the nation’s capital, but by the experience of every member within it. His proposed administration will therefore prioritise inclusive governance, open communication and meaningful member participation, irrespective of age, status, gender, background or area of practice.

Philemon has also committed to making Branch meetings more responsive to members’ needs. His opening remarks as Chairman will be transformed into a formal Chairman’s Report, providing updates on developments affecting lawyers, interventions undertaken by the Branch, engagements with relevant institutions and practical measures being adopted to address members’ concerns.

Members of the Executive Committee will similarly be required to present periodic reports on their activities, services, challenges and achievements. This is intended to strengthen accountability and ensure that every Branch meeting becomes a platform for genuine dialogue, collective problem-solving and measurable action.

At the heart of the vision is a Branch in which no lawyer feels invisible, excluded or abandoned, a Unity Bar that protects its members, creates opportunities and draws strength from its diversity.

The choice before members is therefore about more than electing a Chairman. It is about choosing leadership that listens, responds and unites.

Voting will be conducted through physical balloting for only three hours on Friday, 31 July 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, at the Ceremonial Court, High Court of the FCT, Maitama, Abuja.

Every minute matters. Every presence matters. Every ballot matters.
