The commencement of the Legal Year stands as a significant fixture in the calendar of the legal profession, an occasion devoted to expressing gratitude to God for the blessings of the past year, while undertaking a measured reflection on the opportunities, challenges, and developments that shaped the justice sector.
It is equally a moment for collective supplication, entrusting the new year to divine guidance, strength, and clarity.
In Anambra State, this year’s observance was formally led by the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Onochie Anyachebelu.
The ceremonies began with a thanksgiving Mass at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, where members of the Bench, the Bar, and justice-sector stakeholders gathered in reverence to acknowledge God’s sustaining grace and seek His direction for the responsibilities that lie ahead.
After the Mass, proceedings transitioned to the High Court complex for the special court session marking the official commencement of the new legal year, an event distinguished by its solemnity and its affirmation of the judiciary’s enduring commitment to justice, order, and institutional integrity.
I was privileged to join colleagues from across the country for this important annual observance, including Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, who attended from Lagos.
The collective presence of practitioners from diverse jurisdictions underscored the unity and shared resolve that continue to strengthen the legal profession.
The ceremonies provided a dignified and reflective start to the year, reinforcing the optimism with which we approach the tasks ahead and our unwavering dedication to advancing the administration of justice.
