Today at the NICArb Annual Conference 2025, something became undeniably clear: Africa is no longer talking about the future of dispute resolution—we are building it.

This year’s theme, “Strengthening Institutional Arbitration and ADR in Africa: Charting a New Path,” captures that momentum perfectly.

In every session, one powerful truth echoed loudly: institutional arbitration is not merely a legal tool; it is a strategic instrument for development, accountability, and access to justice.

When justice becomes faster, fairer, and more predictable, societies flourish and businesses, individuals, and nations begin to trust the system that governs them.

For me, this is more than a technical conversation. It is a movement:

  • A movement toward a judicial culture that values efficiency over delay, innovation over tradition, and resolution over rivalry.
  • A movement where the law does not intimidate, it empowers.

As we rethink how disputes should be resolved in this century, I am reminded that progress rarely demands louder voices, it demands better systems. And today, those systems are taking shape.

Africa is charting a new path.

Not because the old one was impossible, but because a better one is now within reach.

Let’s keep walking it.
