In a heartfelt reflection shared with members of the legal community, Professor Foluke Dada-Lawanson emphasized the transformative power of mentorship in shaping the next generation of lawyers.
Speaking on her experience mentoring young practitioners, Prof. Dada-Lawanson noted that one of the most rewarding aspects of her journey has been watching young lawyers evolve from uncertainty into confident advocates and purposeful leaders.
“Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside young lawyers who were unsure of where they fit in the profession. Watching them grow into confident advocates and purposeful leaders has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my journey,” she said.
The seasoned academic and mentor further explained that mentorship should not aim to create replicas of senior lawyers but should instead help mentees discover their unique paths, voices, and potential.
She also extended a call to action to both seniors and juniors in the Bar:

“To every senior lawyer: take a moment to check in on a younger colleague. To every young lawyer: don’t be afraid to ask questions, seek guidance, and show up with curiosity. When we lift others, we all rise.”
Prof. Dada-Lawanson’s message, tagged #PossibilityMovement, reinforces the need for stronger intergenerational support within the legal community and highlights mentorship as a vital pillar of leadership development and professional growth.
