The Lagos State Police Command has officially discontinued the investigation into Senior Pastor Paul Adefarasin of House on the Rock Church after probing a viral video that appeared to show him holding a gun-like object. The decision follows a thorough investigation by the police, which confirmed that the item in question was not a firearm but a stun gun, a non-lethal device.
The video in question surfaced online in June 2025. It showed Pastor Adefarasin driving a Range Rover, rolling down his window, and engaging with a road user while holding a dark, unidentified object. Online reactions swiftly concluded that it was a firearm. Amid public uproar, Pastor Adefarasin turned himself in to the Lagos State Police Command’s headquarters in Ikeja for questioning. He submitted a cautionary statement and cooperated with investigators.

After the full investigation, including interviews, examination of the object, and statements, the police determined that the object was a stun gun, not a firearm or lethal weapon. With no sufficient grounds to proceed, the matter has now been discontinued by the Lagos State Police Command.
Pastor Adefarasin had earlier taken to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to clarify that at no point did he use a firearm or threaten anyone. He emphasised that the allegation was based on a misunderstanding. During a service streamed live on YouTube, he described the public reaction as “hurtful” and “malicious,” calling out those who spread misinformation as “clickbaiters.”

Lagos State Police Commissioner Olohundare Jimoh had earlier stated in a media interview that using a stun gun in a threatening manner could constitute an offence under the Firearms Act if it causes fear or is used to intimidate. However, the police later clarified that this particular instance did not meet the legal threshold for a criminal offence.
The discontinuation brings closure to a case that sparked widespread debate on social media over what constitutes lawful versus unlawful possession of weapon-like objects. It underlines the importance of investigating viral content before drawing conclusions and highlights the role of law enforcement in balancing public safety with due process.
