Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, announced the revocation of a 20-year land allocation to construction giant Julius Berger, which was intended for the construction of residences for judges. This declaration was made during the official flag-off ceremony for the construction of judicial quarters in Katampe District, officiated by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
Wike explained that the decision to revoke the land allocation was made in the public interest, expressing concerns about why the land had remained undeveloped for two decades. “Thank God they did not develop it. Now, we’re able to have it,” he remarked. The minister expressed optimism that the construction project would be completed within 15 months.
During his remarks, Wike emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing the living conditions of judges, highlighting its significance for maintaining the independence of the judiciary. He noted that adequate housing is essential for judges to perform their duties effectively and without undue influence, underscoring the administration’s dedication to supporting the judiciary.
