TRANSPARENCY LAWYERS INITIATIVE
Our attention has been drawn to a petition and press release signed by the Chairmen of the eight (8) branches of the NBA within Rivers State, threatening to boycott the 2025 Annual General Conference (AGC) scheduled to hold in Port Harcourt.
We want to unequivocally State that this is not the position of majority of the lawyers within the branches as the branch Chairmen are on their own in this decision. The branch Chairmen never consulted members of the branches before taking this decision and this does not reflect the yearnings of the lawyers within these branches.
NBA Announces 2025 Bar Practicing Fee Payment Window and Benefits
We are aware that this protest is as a result of the failure of the President to appoint the NBA PH Branch Chairman as Chairman of the LOC or Alternate Chairman. This is very sad and unfortunate and only aimed at causing disunity and disaffection amongst members of the branch against the National Executive because of the personal interest of an individual.
The Attorney General Mr. Dagogo Iboroma SAN is sound and capable to give us a memorable conference as Chairman of the LOC. We are comfortable with the LOC list and urge the President to go ahead and inaugurate them, as the decision of the branch Chairmen are personal decisions and not the decision of the branches.
Register Now: Early Bird Registration, Ends February 28, 2025.
We urge the National President to discountenance and forgive the branch Chairmen for the said press statement as it does not reflect the views of the majority of the members of the eight (8) branches.
We urge the branch Chairmen to remember that they represent the branches and not their personal interest, so before issuing such press statements, members of the branches ought to be first consulted and not neglected like they have done. NBA is not their personal property and it should not be treated as such.
Members of the 8 branches are already mobilizing for the Annual General Conference and the statement by the branch Chairmen cannot deter us from mobilizing and attending as the branch Chairmen are not responsible for our conference fees.
We will remain partners in progress for a proactive bar.
