Uzodinma Appeals to Unknown Gunmen to Surrender, Pledges Financial Support

The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, has called on unidentified gunmen in hiding to lay down their arms and reintegrate into society, offering financial aid to support their transition into productive ventures.

Governor Uzodinma made this plea during the funeral of the slain former Imo APC Woman Leader, Orlu Zone, Jenny Rachael Okonkwo, who was brutally murdered in 2022 by suspected hoodlums. The funeral was held at Okonkwo’s country home in Ogberuru, Orlu Local Government Area.

Addressing mourners, Uzodinma condemned the assassination of Okonkwo and four other women, describing it as a great loss to the state and the All Progressives Congress (APC). He praised the late Okonkwo’s dedication to the Party, calling her a committed organizer and mobilizer who tirelessly served the APC and the state.

“She was one of the best organizers and mobilizers, not only in Orlu Local Government but in Imo State in general. A very committed party woman, who worked, suffered, and served the Party and the government. Because of her commitment, political opponents assassinated her,” Uzodinma lamented.

The Governor decried the rise of political violence in the Orlu zone, accusing unscrupulous politicians of recruiting outsiders to perpetrate heinous acts against their own people. He expressed confidence that those responsible for these killings would soon face divine justice.

“Those who are behind the political killings in Orlu zone are still at work, but very soon the wrath of God will catch up with them,” Uzodinma declared.

Support for Victims’ Families

In a gesture of compassion, the Governor approved ₦10 million for each family of the deceased and pledged government support to train or employ the victims’ children.

“The government will employ any of their children who are employable or train them if they are willing to learn a trade or skill,” he stated.

Uzodinma urged all aggrieved parties to remain committed to the APC and the development of the state while praying for the repose of the deceased.

Call for Peace

The Governor reiterated his commitment to restoring peace in Imo State, emphasizing the need for collaboration among residents to end political violence and senseless killings.

“With the help of God, Orlu people are beginning to see that those behind the killings in the LGA and other areas do not mean well for the state,” Uzodinma remarked.

He reassured the people of Orlu and Imo State that his administration is dedicated to addressing insecurity and fostering unity for the betterment of all.
