In a powerful call to action for the protection of children, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya FCIArb (fondly known as Mrs. B) delivered a keynote address at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ikorodu Branch’s Train the Trainers Seminar—a transformative initiative designed to combat violence against children in schools and promote safer, rights-based learning environments.

Addressing a dedicated audience of educators, legal professionals, and stakeholders, Mrs. B brought her signature clarity and conviction to bear on the legal responsibilities of school personnel, with particular focus on Section 10 of the Lagos State Child Rights Law, 2015.

She highlighted this section’s affirmation of every child’s right to dignity and protection from inhuman or degrading treatment.

“Awareness of these legal obligations is not optional—it is the cornerstone of child protection,” she stressed.

Mrs. B challenged participants to embrace their role as agents of change, urging them to approach child discipline with empathy, accountability, and legal consciousness. Her address emphasized that safeguarding children’s rights is both a legal mandate and a moral duty.

She also commended the forward-thinking leadership of NBA Ikorodu Branch, led by Olawumi Adeola, the first female NBA Chair in Lagos State, and Tessy Osakwe, Coordinator of the NBA Women Forum (Ikorodu Branch), for organizing the timely and impactful seminar.

“Legal practitioners must not only advocate within courtrooms but also take the law to the people—especially where gaps in knowledge can cost lives or futures,” she added.

The event underscored the vital collaboration between the legal and education sectors in creating safe, informed, and rights-focused environments for children. Mrs. B’s contribution left attendees inspired and better equipped to become defenders of children’s dignity in every classroom.
