Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged parliament to quickly approve the departure of Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko as tensions between state prosecutors and independent anti-corruption agencies intensify.
Kravchenko submitted his resignation after an anti-corruption investigation reached his office, although he has not been charged or formally named as a suspect in that investigation.
The departing prosecutor has in turn announced investigative action concerning Semen Kryvonos, head of Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau. NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office have challenged the move and denied allegations directed at their leadership.
The clash has created an unusually public confrontation among institutions responsible for enforcing Ukraine’s anti-corruption laws.
Its significance extends beyond individual officials. The independence and credibility of NABU and other anti-corruption institutions are closely watched as Ukraine seeks European Union membership and continued international support.
