The Nigerian legal community is in deep mourning following the tragic death of Chineze Ikpeazu, beloved daughter of renowned legal luminary, Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN. Chineze died in a fatal accident on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
A brilliant and accomplished young woman, Chineze had recently completed her legal education, having graduated from Babcock University with a law degree and finished her professional training at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus.
She had just passed her final Bar examinations and was preparing to be called to the Nigerian Bar — a significant milestone in her budding legal career.
Her passing, just days before this important event, has been described by colleagues, friends, and mentors as a heartbreaking loss not only to her family but also to the future of the legal profession in Nigeria. Her peers remember her as diligent, compassionate, and deeply committed to justice.

The tragedy is compounded by the fact that this marks the second time in a little over two years that Dr. Ikpeazu has lost a daughter. In March 2023, he lost his second daughter, 31-year-old Nwankie Ikpeazu, following a brief illness. The family, long admired for its devotion to law, academia, and public service, has now suffered yet another devastating blow.
Chineze Ikpeazu will be laid to rest on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Funeral arrangements are ongoing, and tributes continue to pour in from across the country as the legal community joins the Ikpeazu family in grieving the loss of a bright legal mind taken too soon.
