The Nigerian Bar Association, Calabar Branch (the Doyen Bar), on Thursday, March 12, 2026, officially unveiled the logo and theme for its 2026 Annual Bar Week in a historic ceremony that marks the first event of its kind in the branch’s history.
The unveiling ceremony introduced the theme *The Rule of Law: Safeguarding Democracy, Ensuring Accountability* a theme aimed at reinforcing the legal profession’s commitment to protecting democratic institutions and promoting transparency in governance.
The event attracted a wide cross-section of members of the legal community and distinguished stakeholders within the Bar. Among those present were representatives of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), the Young Lawyers Forum (YLF), the NBA Women Forum, and the Eastern Bar Forum.
Also in attendance was a member of the Nigerian Bar Association General Council of the Bar, Daniel Kip, Esq, which further underscores the significance of the occasion.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Doyen Bar, Enome Amatey, Esq, commended members of the Bar and the 2026 Bar Week Planning Committee for their creativity, dedication, and commitment toward organizing what promises to be a productive and impactful Bar Week.
He noted that the unveiling signals the beginning of activities leading to a week that will advance professional development and strengthen the role of the legal profession in society.
He concluded that his administration will continue to pursue innovative ways of promoting the rule of law and guaranteeing accountability in governance.
Speaking on behalf of the planning committee, the Chairman, Paul O. Ebiala, PhD, provided insights into the symbolism and significance of the newly unveiled logo and theme.
He emphasized that the theme reflects the critical role of the legal profession in upholding the rule of law, safeguarding democratic values, and ensuring accountability within public institutions.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Doyen Bar Elders Advisory Committee, Ntufam Mba E. Ukweni, SAN, highlighted the relevance of the theme in Nigeria’s evolving democratic landscape.
He urged members of the Bar to remain steadfast in their commitment to the ideals of justice, integrity, and service to society.
The unveiling ceremony sets the tone for the 2026 Doyen Bar Week, which is expected to feature a series of professional, intellectual, and social activities designed to promote legal excellence, strengthen unity among members of the Bar, and contribute meaningfully to national discourse on governance and the rule of law.
The event also represents a significant milestone for the Doyen Bar as it continues to foster leadership and innovation within the legal profession.
