Its integration into the legal field, particularly within Nigeria’s criminal justice system, presents a significant opportunity to address persistent challenges such as case backlogs, procedural delays, and limited access to legal resources, thereby enhancing the overall administration of justice.
This Article examines the impact of AI on criminal law practice in Nigeria, highlighting both its potential to improve efficiency, investigation, and legal processes, and the critical concerns it raises regarding regulation, fairness, accountability, and over-reliance on technology.
It emphasizes that while AI offers transformative benefits, its effective and just application depends on the establishment of proper legal frameworks, ethical safeguards, and continuous human oversight.
