In a significant step toward modernizing judicial processes and enhancing justice delivery, the Taraba State Judiciary, under the leadership of Hon. Justice Joel Agya, Chief Judge of the state, has commenced the training of judiciary staff on the use of e-filing — a key feature of the Nigeria Case Management System (NCMS).

The capacity-building session, held in Jalingo, was facilitated by Mr. Folorunsho Agbeja, Assistant Director of ICT at the Supreme Court of Nigeria and a member of the Judiciary Information Technology Policy Committee (JITP-COM). Speaking at the sidelines of the event, Agbeja emphasized the importance of adopting technology in Nigeria’s judicial system, describing it as essential for enhancing transparency, speed, and efficiency in case management.

“The judiciary must adapt to the evolving landscape of digital transformation,” Agbeja noted. “This training empowers court officials, including the Chief Judge, Deputy Chief Registrars, Directors, Court Registrars, and Bailiffs, to adopt electronic filing and case tracking in their day-to-day court administration. The system is designed to streamline workflow, reduce paperwork, and improve transparency.”

Agbeja praised the commitment of the participants, highlighting their enthusiasm and readiness to apply the newly acquired knowledge. He also commended Hon. Justice Agya for his forward-thinking leadership and for embracing digital innovation, urging that such training should become a routine part of the judiciary’s professional development agenda.

Participants expressed satisfaction with the training. Mr. Danjuma Audu, a staff officer in the Office of the Chief Judge, described the experience as a significant boost to their administrative capabilities, while Mr. Martins Yakubu applauded the Chief Judge’s ongoing efforts to modernize the court system, stating that the skills acquired will elevate the quality of service delivery in line with international best practices.

This initiative aligns with the Taraba State High Court’s earlier move to adopt electronic case transmission — a reform aimed at reducing delays and ensuring faster access to justice.

As the judiciary continues its digital transformation journey, the successful implementation of the Nigeria Case Management System is expected to redefine how justice is delivered across Taraba State, placing it firmly on the path of 21st-century judicial excellence.
