Sowore Criticizes Nyesom Wike for Celebrating Son’s Graduation in the UK

Human rights activist and #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, has lambasted the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for celebrating his son’s graduation from Queen Mary University of London, UK.

Sowore criticized Wike for failing to build a school in Nigeria good enough for his children to attend, despite holding several high-profile public offices.

Sowore Alleges Existence of Secret Memo Against Igbos in Government

He highlighted Wike’s previous roles as a two-term Governor of Rivers State, a former Minister of Education, and a two-term local government chairman. Sowore described Wike’s inability to improve Nigeria’s educational system as “a crying shame.”

Reacting to Wike’s social media post about his son’s Master of Laws (LLM) degree graduation, Sowore wrote:

“You were governor for eight years in Rivers State, one of Nigeria’s wealthiest states. You looted the state dry and couldn’t build a single school where your children could earn a Master’s in Law. What a crying shame!

“Nyesom Wike was Ex-local government Chairman (two terms), Ex-Minister of Education (4 years), Ex-Governor of Rivers State (two terms-8 years), and Current FCT Minister, yet Wike could not build a school good enough to send his children to study. He needs to send them to UK schools with stolen funds.”

Wike and Family

Wike had posted about the graduation earlier, stating:

“Happy to witness, alongside my wife, the graduation ceremony of our son, Jordan, who just earned a Master of Laws (LLM) Degree at the Queen Mary University of London, UK. As a father, I am happy for the progress Jordan is making in the pursuit of his career.”

The incident has reignited debates over the priorities of Nigerian politicians, particularly their preference for foreign education for their children while public schools in the country remain underfunded and in poor condition.
