In a stirring goodwill message, Professor Foluke Dada-Lawanson has congratulated the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Barnawa Branch on the commencement of its 2025 Law Week, commending the Branch for selecting a courageous and thought-provoking theme: “Democracy and the Nigerian Experience: The Mirage of Chapter 2 of the 1999 Constitution.”
Describing the theme as both “bold and timely,” Prof. Dada-Lawanson emphasized the need for national introspection on the unfulfilled promises enshrined in Chapter 2 of the Constitution—provisions that speak to social justice, education, health, equal opportunity, and dignity, yet remain non-justiciable.
“If these remain a mirage,” she noted, “then democracy remains incomplete.”
She praised the Barnawa Branch for provoking this vital conversation and for upholding the noble responsibilities of the legal profession—not just in interpreting laws, but in challenging silence, pushing boundaries, and demanding fulfilment.

Prof. Dada-Lawanson urged that the Law Week should be “more than a gathering” but a spark that ignites reform in legal systems, governance, and national conscience.
“Well done, learned friends. Your voice matters. Your vision inspires,” she concluded.
Prof. Foluke Dada-Lawanson currently serves as Chair of the Lawyers in Academia Forum and is a former 2nd Vice President of the NBA (2018–2020).
