Following a tip-off on Sunday, September 15, 2024, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Sagbama Branch, received the tragic news of the cold-blooded murder of one of its members, Jeremiah Jeriano Chukwu, Esq., which occurred on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Akaba Community, Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.
Upon receiving the information, the Chairman of the Branch, O.J. Sampson, Esq., along with his Exco and other members, immediately visited the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) morgue in Yenagoa, where Jeremiah’s body was deposited. The team also proceeded to the A Division of the Nigerian Police Force, where the suspects involved in this heinous crime were detained.
On Monday, September 16, 2024, the Chairman, Exco members, and others from the Bar visited the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID). They were received by the CID’s Administrative Officer (AO), and following the Branch’s formal complaint, the case was transferred to the State CID for a thorough investigation. The Chairman and his team were further briefed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, CID, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, regarding the progress made in the investigation thus far.
It is essential to point out that Jeremiah Jeriano Chukwu, Esq., a young, vibrant, and friendly lawyer, was in his home at Akaba Community when he was attacked and killed by the suspects on the fateful day of September 14, 2024.
The NBA, Sagbama Branch, vehemently condemns this brutal and horrific act and calls on the Nigerian Police Force, especially the Bayelsa State Command, to extend their investigation beyond the two prime suspects currently in custody. A full-scale investigation must be launched to ensure that every individual involved in this gruesome murder is brought to justice.
The NBA, Sagbama Branch, remains resolute in its quest for justice for Jeremiah Jeriano Chukwu, Esq. We will leave no stone unturned until every perpetrator involved in this terrible act is apprehended, prosecuted, and justice is served.
