Police Arrest 23-Year-Old Man for Allegedly Beating Girlfriend to Death in Lagos

A tragic incident occurred in the Ijedodo area of Lagos State where a 25-year-old woman was found dead in the apartment of her boyfriend, Gbolahan Adebayo, 23. The incident came to light on Sunday, February 23, when a neighbour heard Adebayo screaming for help at around 7:00 a.m.

Details of the Incident

According to the Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, neighbours rushed to Adebayo’s apartment and found the woman unconscious on the bed, with visible signs of severe physical abuse. She was immediately taken to a hospital in Ijegun, where doctors confirmed her death on arrival.

A police report stated that a neighbour had previously seen Adebayo beating the woman on February 21 for unknown reasons. However, no immediate intervention was reported at the time. By the morning of February 23, Adebayo allegedly raised an alarm, drawing the attention of residents, who found his girlfriend in critical condition.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following a report to the police at the Isheri Osun Division, officers visited the crime scene and the hospital where the woman was taken. Authorities inspected and photographed the deceased’s body before moving it to a morgue in Yaba for an autopsy.

Adebayo was promptly arrested and taken into custody while police continued their investigation into the matter.
