The management of Agidigbo FM has debunked claims circulating online that its chairman, Oriyomi Hamzat; the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola; and the Principal of Islamic High School, Abdullahi Mfasasi, have been released from custody.
In a statement released on Saturday via Oriyomi Hamzat’s official Facebook page, Agidigbo FM management described the reports of their release as “fake news” and urged the public to disregard such misinformation. The statement also issued a stern warning to those propagating the falsehood, urging them to desist.
The statement reads:
“The Management of Agidigbo FM has described as fake news the rumour circulating that the chairman of Agidigbo 88.7FM Oriyomi Hamzat, ex-queen of Ooni of Ife Naomi Silekunola, and the Principal of Islamic High School Abdullahi Mfasasi have been released from prison. The public is advised to disregard the rumour, and we warn those spreading it to stop this act immediately.
“Stop the spread of fake news!!”
The trio remains in custody following their arraignment on December 24 at a Magistrate Court in Ibadan, where they were remanded at the Agodi prison.
Reports indicate that Naomi Silekunola is currently on a hunger strike at the Agodi prison. According to her mother, Mrs. Funmilayo Ogunseyi, who visited her on Thursday, Naomi is deeply distraught over the tragic stampede in Ibadan that claimed the lives of 35 individuals.
“She wasn’t happy about the whole incident. She loves children. The queen loves and helps children, single mothers, old women, and widows. She is still in pain that those children lost their lives because her intention was pure,” Ogunseyi revealed.
Ogunseyi further explained that Naomi had a longstanding tradition of organising charitable events aimed at helping vulnerable individuals in society. The stampede, which occurred during one such event in Ibadan, left her heartbroken.
Both Hamzat and Mfasasi also remain incarcerated, awaiting further proceedings as the legal process unfolds.
