The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Citizens and Liberties Committee, Nuhu J. Egya, a distinguished advocate for civil liberties and a leading voice in the fight against human rights violations across Nigeria, has commended the NBA Garki Branch for its forward-thinking theme and impactful activities during its 2025 Law Week.

Egya, a committed legal activist whose Committee oversees critical mandates such as inspection of detention facilities, investigation of rights violations, and collaboration with NBA branches on justice reform, described this year’s theme — focusing on the dynamic interplay between law, technology, and society — as both timely and transformational.

In his goodwill message to the Garki Branch, fondly known as the Liberty Bar, Egya emphasized the urgent need for the legal profession to realign with the realities of a rapidly digitizing world.

He noted that while technology is revolutionizing governance, commerce, and communication, its true potential must be evaluated through the lens of justice, access, and human dignity.

“Technology must be a tool for justice—not an instrument of exclusion,” Egya stressed. “The legal profession cannot stand aloof while digital tools redefine rights, responsibilities, and remedies in our society.”

He praised the Garki Branch for setting a new benchmark by integrating fitness activities, community picnics, and intellectual engagement into a vibrant Law Week that underscores the legal profession’s role in societal development.

According to him, the synergy between the branch and the NBA Citizens and Liberties Committee remains a vital force in advancing human rights protection across detention centers, legal communities, and underserved populations.

Egya also highlighted the Garki Branch’s active Human Rights Committee and its continued support for pro bono services, justice sector reform, and community outreach.

“This theme shows we understand the times we live in. The way forward is a profession where legal minds lead technological change—not trail behind it—while staying rooted in the values of liberty and equity,” he added.

The 2025 Law Week theme reflects a bold call for Nigerian lawyers to lead innovation without compromising constitutional freedoms.

As digitization continues to shape legal systems globally, Egya’s message offers a clear direction: harness technology to empower, not to marginalize.
