Naija News reports that NRC Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Abuja. He stated that technical staff of the corporation, alongside the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and other relevant agencies, are currently on the ground at the train derailment site carrying out an investigation NRC MD dismissed claims that the trains are not in good condition.
He also revealed that refund of the ticket fees has been initiated for all passengers on board. Opeifa, who received some passengers on board the train at the Asham station, Idu train station, Abuja, said six passengers sustained minor injuries and have since been treated.
He, however, said the exact number of passengers onboard has not been ascertained yet. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced investigations into Tuesday’s derailment of a Kaduna-bound passenger train along the Abuja–Kaduna corridor.
The incident, which occurred around 11:09 a.m. at KM 49 between Kubwa and Asham stations, left six passengers injured, though no fatalities were recorded.

In a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Mrs Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, the Bureau said a “go-team” of investigators had been dispatched to the site to gather evidence, liaise with stakeholders, and establish the circumstances leading to the derailment.
“The Bureau has deployed investigators to the site to ensure the root cause of this derailment is uncovered. Our commitment is to ensure safer rail transport for Nigerians through a transparent and independent investigation,” the NSIB Director General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., said. According to the NSIB, six passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries but are receiving medical attention.
It added that support is being extended to all passengers affected by the derailment. “We deeply sympathise with all who sustained injuries,” Captain Badeh said, assuring that updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
The Bureau explained that its inquiry would examine both the immediate and underlying factors responsible for the incident, with the aim of issuing safety recommendations aimed at preventing a recurrence.
