Nigerian Ladies Arrested for Producing, Selling Drug-Infused Cupcakes to Students in Kwara

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two young women for allegedly manufacturing and distributing drug-laced cupcakes to students in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The suspects, Khadijat Abdulraheem, a 24-year-old recent graduate, and Ayomide Morakinyo, a 20-year-old student at the University of Ilorin, were apprehended on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Tanke-University of Ilorin Road, Oke Odo, Ilorin.

Details of the Arrest
In a statement by Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, it was revealed that 42 pieces of drug-infused cakes were recovered during a search of the suspects’ residence. The operation highlights the agency’s continued efforts to combat drug abuse and illicit trade in Nigeria.

The NDLEA also reported the re-arrest of Sodade Sunday Eniola, an ex-convict previously sentenced to four years in prison for drug trafficking. Eniola, who had opted to pay a N750,000 fine for his release in June 2024, was caught again in connection with passport racketeering. Investigations uncovered 52 concealed passports bound for Canada, Russia, and other countries.

Four members of three syndicates involved in the passport racket were apprehended, including:

  • Sodade Sunday Eniola
  • Ayinde Saheed Awwal
  • Salaudeen Afeez Ayode
  • Sheriff Adebayo Bamigbade

The suspects, along with the recovered exhibits, were handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service for further investigation and prosecution.

Major Seizures in December 2024

  • Port Harcourt Ports Complex: 316,800 bottles of codeine-based syrup were seized in two containers during a joint operation involving the NDLEA, Nigeria Customs, and other agencies.
  • Kano: A raid on the Mafarki, Dan Dishe area of Dala Local Government led to the recovery of 149,090 pills of tramadol and exol-5 from local dealer Ismail Muhammad, 45.

The NDLEA continues its relentless fight against drug abuse and trafficking, aiming to safeguard public health and safety across Nigeria.
