Counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has strongly condemned the escalating invasion of communities across Nigeria by armed herdsmen, calling for immediate government intervention.
In his statement on Tuesday, Ejiofor denounced the ongoing killings of citizens in Plateau, Enugu, Benue, and Delta States by herdsmen, urging the government to take decisive action. He attributed the violence to the government’s failure to address the situation, describing it as a national tragedy.
Ejiofor stated, “Nigeria is witnessing a grave national tragedy — a relentless wave of violence unleashed by rampaging Fulani herdsmen across various states. The unchecked bloodbath of innocent citizens, whose only crime is being indigenous to their ancestral lands, has become a tragic, daily occurrence.”
He criticized the government for its inaction, highlighting the growing casualty figures that are reported as mere statistics. He further condemned the government’s “complicit silence” and failure to take meaningful action in the wake of these atrocities.

The human rights lawyer emphasized that the lives of Nigerian citizens should not be less valued than cattle. He called on President Bola Tinubu and state governors to take urgent, coordinated action to protect citizens’ lives, noting that the current situation is a clear violation of their constitutional duty.
Ejiofor also stressed the need for decisive action from security agencies and urged communities to safeguard themselves in the absence of state intervention. He concluded, “Life is precious. Its sanctity must be preserved. Government must restore public confidence, secure our communities, and ensure that citizens’ safety is a right, not a luxury.”
