NICN, Labour Lawyers Open Bar-Bench Dialogue in Abuja

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria, NICN, in collaboration with the Employment and Labour Lawyers Association of Nigeria, ELLAN, is holding its 2026 Bar and Bench Forum today at the NICN headquarters in Abuja.

The forum, themed “Beyond the Courtroom: Rethinking Bar and Bench Engagement in Employment and Industrial Relations,” forms part of activities marking the Court’s 2026 New Legal Year.

Proceedings are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the NICN headquarters on Hon. Justice Babatunde Adejumo Street, Area 3, Garki.

Organisers say the gathering is intended to provide judges and practitioners with a platform for candid engagement on legal, administrative and professional questions affecting employment and industrial-relations practice.

The conversation comes at a time when workplace disputes increasingly intersect with constitutional rights, collective bargaining, termination of employment, workplace discrimination, pensions and rapidly changing forms of work.

For practitioners, the value of such a forum lies beyond ceremonial Bench-Bar engagement. Direct discussion of court procedure, recent jurisprudence and recurring professional difficulties can help reduce avoidable litigation errors while improving how employment disputes are presented and resolved.

The forum also reflects a wider movement within the Nigerian legal profession towards more specialised professional development as practice areas become increasingly technical. TheNigeriaLawyer
