The Nigerian Bar Association Women’s Forum (NBAWF) has issued a strong condemnation of the degrading and inhumane treatment meted out to Ms. Comfort Emmanson on 10 August 2025 by Ibom Air and airport security personnel. The Forum has called for immediate redress, accountability, and restoration of her dignity.

According to confirmed reports, Ms. Emmanson was forcibly removed from an Ibom Air flight, stripped of her clothing in public, and subjected to the trauma of having the incident recorded and circulated online.

The Forum described the actions as a gross violation of her fundamental right to human dignity and privacy, adding that the public dissemination of such footage was a cruel invasion of privacy and potentially a criminal offence.

In alignment with the Nigerian Bar Association’s broader stance, NBAWF condemned the incident as unlawful, dehumanising, and entirely unacceptable in a society governed by the rule of law.

NBAWF’s Demands

  1. Immediate public apology to Ms. Emmanson from Ibom Air and all responsible parties.
  2. Withdrawal of the lifetime flight ban imposed on her by Ibom Air and the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), which NBAWF says contravenes principles of fair hearing and due process.
  3. Prompt, impartial investigation by the Ministry of Aviation, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and relevant security agencies to identify and hold accountable those involved in recording, leaking, and circulating the footage.
  4. Provision of legal representation for Ms. Emmanson to seek redress and restore her dignity—a commitment already pledged by the NBA.

“No Nigerian, regardless of the circumstances, should endure such humiliation or have her dignity stripped in broad daylight,” the statement read.

“Ms. Comfort Emmanson’s rights have been violated on multiple fronts—her physical privacy, her psychological well-being, and her basic right to due process. NBAWF stands firmly with her, and we demand that justice be served swiftly and transparently. She deserves nothing less.”
