NBA WOMEN FORUM SETS FOR APRIL CONFERENCE: FCT STATE LEAD VISITS NBA PRESIDENT

In preparation for the much-anticipated 2025 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF), the FCT State Lead of the Forum, Hajiya Hadiza Afegbua, Esq., led a distinguished delegation on a courtesy visit to the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN.

The high-level visit took place at the NBA National Secretariat and had in attendance top members of the NBA leadership. In her remarks, Hajiya Afegbua noted that since her assumption of office in October 2024, the NBAWF FCT Chapter has witnessed unprecedented growth and impact.

She proudly highlighted the forum’s successful expansion and outreach efforts across all NBA branches within the Federal Capital Territory, namely: Abuja Unity Bar, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Garki, and Karu Branches.

Afegbua reiterated the Forum’s unwavering commitment to the empowerment and professional advancement of female lawyers. According to her, “The Forum is not just about gatherings, but building a community of women lawyers who are visible, heard, and respected across all strata of the legal profession.”

She further emphasized the importance of representation, inclusion, and sustained development of women in law.

In his response, NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, warmly received the delegation and commended the passion and proactive leadership demonstrated by Hajiya Afegbua and her team.

He expressed admiration for the Forum’s progress and reassured them of the NBA’s full support toward the upcoming Conference and other empowerment initiatives aimed at strengthening female participation within the Bar.

The NBA President was joined by key national officers including the General Secretary, Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara, Esq.; Treasurer, Mrs. Blessing Imo Udofa-Poromon; and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Jonny Agim.

They echoed the President’s sentiments and encouraged the Forum to continue charting new paths for gender parity and professional growth.

In his closing remarks, Mazi Osigwe charged the FCT State Lead and her team to ensure that delegates to the forthcoming Conference are properly received, accommodated, and engaged, while ensuring the event sets a new benchmark in terms of impact and organization.

The NBA Women Forum’s 2025 Annual General Conference is scheduled to hold in Abuja from the 29th to 30th of April, 2025, under the theme: “From Promise to Action: Achieving Gender Parity for Lasting Change.”

The Conference promises to bring together female legal professionals, thought leaders, policy influencers, and advocates for a robust dialogue on achieving sustainable progress for women in the legal profession.
