Accelerate Action: No More Waiting, No More Excuses
Distinguished Learned Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Respectable Elders, Esteemed colleagues, and trailblazing women of the Bar,
Today, as we mark International Women’s Day 2025, we do so with a clear and urgent message—It’s time to accelerate action.
Since the Beijing Conference of 1995, we have seen changes; but the destination is still far from being reached. Women have entered boardrooms, but we are still underrepresented in leadership.

We have shattered glass ceilings, but somehow, we are still sweeping up the pieces. The legal profession has opened doors, but why do we still have to push so hard to walk through the doors?
The 2025 theme for the IWD, Accelerate Action, is a call to urgency. We are done waiting. The time for gradual progress is over. We must speed up, speak up, and show up.
So, I ask:
If not now, then when?
If not us, then who?
If we can advocate tirelessly for others, why should we hesitate to advocate for ourselves?

NBAWF is committed to real and measurable change. We are demanding seats at the table. We are mentoring young female lawyers. We are empowering Nigerian female lawyers. We are pushing for policies that work for women—not just in theory but in practice.
My fellow female lawyers, the time is now. No more ceilings breaking—only open skies. No more waiting—only action.
Let’s accelerate, elevate, and continue to empower Nigerian female lawyers for success.
Happy International Women’s Day!
