The Chairperson of the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF), Huwaila Muhammad Ibrahim, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the NBA Bwari Branch during its monthly general meeting on September 27, 2024.
The visit aimed to introduce the newly appointed National Executive Officers of the Forum to the Bwari Branch members and strengthen ties between the Forum and the branch.
Paul Dawodu, SAN (Designate), the Chairman of the NBA Bwari Branch, warmly welcomed the national delegation and expressed his and his branch’s commitment to supporting the NBAWF under its current leadership.
Paul also took the opportunity to congratulate Huwaila on her birthday, which was marked yesterday. This highlighted the significance of her leadership to the forum.
In his remarks, Dawodu recalled that the NBAWF took off from the NBA Bwari Branch before extending to other NBA branches in Abuja. He reaffirmed his branch’s dedication to its continued growth and success, emphasizing the NBA Bwari branch’s history of supporting the Women’s Forum since its inception.
During the meeting, the forum’s National Chairperson attentively listened to the NBA Bwari Branch Human Rights Committee report, which detailed the committee’s prison and police cell visitations. Applauding the committee’s efforts, she emphasized that such activities align with the NBAWF’s core values and agenda.
She encouraged the female lawyers present to register their full membership with the Forum and assured them that her administration is committed to inclusivity and active participation for all members.
The chairperson, Huwaila Ibrahim, also used the platform to give a brief history of the NBAWF and further clarified the distinction between the NBA Women Forum and FIDA (International Federation of Women Lawyers).
She praised the Bwari Branch Human Rights Committee for its outstanding work with the Nigerian Correctional Service and commended the branch for its active role in protecting human rights.
In a call for continued collaboration, the Chairperson expressed her desire to maintain a strong relationship with the NBA Bwari Branch and other NBA branches across the country.
She encouraged female lawyers to register in large numbers with the Forum, reminding those within their first five years of practice that their registration dues are waived. However, she emphasized that attendance and active participation are priorities for members.
