The dispute over the leadership election of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Okitipupa Branch returned to the Federal High Court in Akure on Wednesday, October 14, with the plaintiffs seeking to update their case following the change in the association’s national leadership.
Their lawyers filed an application to amend the originating processes to bring the current NBA President, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, before the court in place of her predecessor.
According to Independent, lead counsel to the plaintiffs, Tope Temokun, explained that the application became necessary because of the leadership transition.
The plaintiffs are challenging the processes that produced the branch leadership. They allege that decisions of the branch’s General Meeting and provisions of the association’s governing laws were disregarded.
Their position is that internal democracy and constitutional procedures must guide the emergence of branch officers. Those allegations remain before the court and have not been established by a final judgment.
The court adjourned the application until December 3, 2026. The latest proceedings concern the proposed amendment of the case; they do not amount to a ruling invalidating the branch election. also reported the development, citing an October 14 statement from the plaintiffs’ counsel.
