The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), in its ongoing commitment to member development and professional excellence, hosted the Fireside Chat Series 4.0 under the theme: “Demystifying CPD and Practising Certificate Requirements.”
The virtual session brought clarity to often misunderstood aspects of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and the prerequisites for the issuance and renewal of the legal Practising Certificate in Nigeria.
The session featured seasoned speakers and NBA officials who dissected the purpose, framework, and future direction of the CPD system. It also provided a platform for lawyers across branches and practice areas to raise critical questions about compliance, CPD credit tracking, and the implications of non-fulfilment.
Participants were educated on:

- The number of CPD credits required annually;
- The types of activities that count toward CPD compliance;
- How to log and verify CPD credits;
- Requirements for obtaining or renewing a valid Practising Certificate;
- Sanctions for non-compliance and the evolving regulatory framework.
“This series is about helping our members understand that CPD is not just a formality, but a pathway to continuous legal excellence,” one speaker noted.
The interactive format of the Fireside Chat allowed for real-time engagement, making the information more accessible, especially to young and mid-level practitioners.
Attendees were also encouraged to take advantage of NBA-endorsed CPD-accredited events, including the upcoming NBA Annual General Conference 2025, which offers 3 CPD credits upon attendance and participation.
The Fireside Chat Series remains one of the NBA’s strategic initiatives to strengthen regulatory awareness, improve professional standards, and build a more empowered Bar.
Members are advised to stay connected for future editions of the series as the NBA continues to unpack regulatory matters in a lawyer-friendly format.
