The Citizens Liberties Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), led by its Chairman, Nuhu J. Egya, has strongly condemned the recent assault on a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member by vigilante operatives in Anambra State.

In a statement, the Committee described the act as “barbaric and degrading”, stressing that it violates Section 34 of the 1999 Constitution, which guarantees the dignity of the human person.

It further noted that the incident contravenes international human rights obligations, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, both of which prohibit torture and inhuman treatment.

The Committee demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators, while urging the Anambra State Government and security agencies to urgently regulate vigilante operations to prevent further abuses.
