On Friday, May 16, 2025, members of the Nigerian legal profession gathered in solemn reflection and heartfelt celebration in Benin City to bid farewell to Dr. Henry Omorogieva Akpata, the revered father of former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Olumide Akpata.
The ceremony drew an outpouring of love and support from all corners of the Bar. Among the dignitaries in attendance was Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya FCIArb, who joined past and present NBA leaders, Senior Advocates, and colleagues from across the country in honouring the memory of a man whose legacy lives on through the outstanding children he raised, most notably, Olumide Akpata, a respected figure who continues to embody the highest values of leadership, service, and humility.
The funeral service, held at the United Baptist Church, was more than a moment of grief; it was a powerful celebration of a life marked by grace, dignity, and impact.
Through prayers, tributes, and presence, the legal community stood in unity with the Akpata family, not only mourning a great loss but also acknowledging a life that bore enduring fruit.

Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya’s presence alongside other leaders of the Bar served as a testament to the compassion and solidarity that define the legal profession, a family that stands together in moments of joy and sorrow alike.
May the soul of Dr. Henry Akpata rest peacefully, and may his memory continue to inspire.
