Human rights activist and Convener of #RevolutionNow Movement, Omoyele Sowore, has distanced #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters from a purported call for a military takeover in Nigeria.
Sowore said this in a post on his X social media handle while reacting to speculations that the nationwide hunger and hardship protest was to orchestrate a military takeover of the country.
He said that while the struggle for freedom in the current ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest included all institutions involved in promoting “lousy” governance in Nigeria, including the Nigerian military, the struggle is not for military takeover.
Sowore, a former presidential candidate of Africa Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 and 2023 general elections said, “We must reiterate that our struggle for freedom, culminating in the current END BAD GOVERNANCE revolt, includes all institutions involved in promoting lousy governance in Nigeria, including the Nigerian military.
“We note with concern that a section of protesters, particularly in Kano and Kaduna, have been waving Russian flags at the same time, calling on the military to take over power.
“Some well-mannered military buzzards have shown up at protest grounds claiming to calm protesters, we are not deceived.
“We want to restate that we are diametrically opposed to military rule because the Nigerian military is as terrible or even more terrible than its civilian counterparts in Abuja.
“We, therefore, distance our REVOLUTIONARY #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria #DaysOfRage #RevolutionNow struggle from those calling for military rule.
“The current people-led mass uprising will defeat the enemies of our country and usher in a new era completely detached from the past and current rotten system.”
